Conversion of Units

CONVERSION OF UNITS:

The basic unit of time is second (s). The other units are minute and hour.

Since the speed is given by large frac{distance}{time} , its unit is metre per second large (m;s^{-1}). However, it can also be expressed as metre per minute large (m;min^{-1}) or kilometer per hour large (km;h^{-1})

Depending on the situation, different units of time are used. For example, the age of a person is expressed in years but not in minutes or hours. The time taken to go from one place to another by an aeroplane can be expressed in minutes and hours but not iin months and years.

large (i)1m/s=frac{1/1000;km}{1/3600;hr}=frac{1}{1000}times3600;km/hr

                   large =3.6;km/hr

large (ii)3;km/hr=frac{3times;m}{3600;s}=frac{3000}{3600}m/s

                             large =frac{30}{36}=0.833;m/s
